    Continentals Poor Tyre Wear ?

I've only done 20K in my B8 Alltrack with the fronts needing replacement. The rears may have another 5K to 7.5K left on them. I had a B7 that also did the same thing. My driving is 75% on the old Pacific Hwy and local bitumen around the Nth Rivers of NSW and the remainder on the MI to Brisbane.

With the B7 I went to cheap and cheerful replacements that were harder and noiser but did 40K.

Maybe I being too precious. Any thoughts ?

Had Contis SC2, SC3 and SC5 on my cars before, SC5 wear is rubbish.

people can have tyres with 500 treadwear rating but with crap wheel alignment, wear will be poor.

for best wear, set toes front and back to 0 and set camber to 0.

My Alltrack Wolfsberg has Pirelli's (Cinturato P7) and my car has close to 22k on now, tyres have at least 50% tread left all around. Tyre pressure can make a big difference to wear. I always run 38 PSI. (I found this out with a Subaru Outback, ran recommended pressure only got 25K, ran 4 PSI higher, got over 50k, sold the car before they died, same Yokohama tyres exactly).

    Cheers,
    Karl

So you do your own alignment ?

I just have to trust what dealership told me at 10K that it was ok.

Ideally ... take to tyre shop yourself to rotate and align at every 5,000-7,500 kms or thereabouts.

Get even wear, notified of issues, and you can replace all 4 tyres at once (something I prefer doing vs changing 2 tyres at a time).

no I don't do my own alignment. if I had a fifth garage space to keep the ramps and alignment laser tools, yes. but I do align my 3 cars at least once a year at a place I trust (not a dealership) and I can read alignment specs and also compare to alignment specs done by a dealership.

I also check tyres pressure at least once a month.

typical dealership alignments set the toes at least 1mm+.
