Hi all
I've been looking at the Alltrack Wolfsburg edition and I am wondering the LED headlights on these are any good. I've noticed that they're basically just a reflector style lamp with an LED globe rather than the dynamic lights that come with the luxury pack.
Thanks in advance
Ky
In my experience they are typical headlights for a Euro vehicle (and I've owned a few...). Most LED lights are a reflector style - just that the bulb positioning and the focus point of the lights are different to incandescent.
My wife has a 2016 Comfortline 132TSI with conventional lights - my Alltrack lights are better. Whiter, better cutoff, more intense light. That is comparing two vehicles back-to-back, build dates less than 12 months apart. Don't know if you can get a much better comparison than that
Cheers
The ones on the 206 are 4x parabolic lenses with the LEDs behind but only 2 of them move. They have shutters for the high beam on 2 of them just like xenons do so different again.
The Tiguen 162 TSI with dynamic LED headlamps is a bit more like the above mentioned Alltrack looking at them, with reflectors that move rather than parabolic lenses so not sure why the difference.
I think the 206 Passat is slightly better than the Tiguens light output as I have been in both at night. I did up my 206s dipped height slightly though cause standard from the dealer they were set way too low.
Now: MY16 VW Passat 206TSI R-Line 4motion
Before: MY14 Skoda Octavia VRS TDI Manual, MY10 Skoda Scout TDI manual
I actually find the lights better than the bi-xenons that I had in my previous passat (MY10.5).
Light is nice and bright and has a decent spread, although haven't had a chance to really use the high beams out of the suburbs.

Couple of weeks ago at Easter we did a run from Hobart to Devonport to get on the Spirit of Tas to head over to Melb for the long weekend. Left home at 5am so had plenty of opportunity to check the quality of the high beam while dodging wildlife at that hour... Good depth, good spread, excellent brightness in the visible pattern.

Awesome thanks all for your feedback.

Picked up my new Wolfsburg Edition earlier this week. Outstanding car.
I do a lot of night driving so headlights are critical to me. I'll post a comparative rating to the three most recent cars I've owned to provide my subjective benchmarks.
Skoda Superb 2015: Low beam 9/10 High Beam 9/10
The bright, white adaptive bi-xeon combined with a built in halogen hi-beam was just brilliant. Never felt underdone and the cornering feature was more than hype.
Golf Comfortline 2014: Low Beam 6/10 High Beam 6/10
Good(ish), safe halogens that are the typical yellow beam that are easily compromised by inclement weather. High beam brightens things, but nothing more than standard issue. Now, the Passat..
Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg 2017: Low Beam 8/10 High Beam 7.5/10
Definitely better than the standard Golf halogens, especially on low beam and they self level with a startup sequence. In fact, the white, bright and broad spread on low beam is the key to these non-adaptive LED lights. I don't feel I'm missing out on too much from the superb xenon's, but no doubt the adaptive LED's would have provided a little extra flexibility. High beam is a mixed bag. I was expecting 'release the hounds' type white explosion, and while it's good (indeed better than the Golf's) it feels slightly underdone. Again I stress, better than halogen, but the combo of full-xenon AND halogen in the Superb was terrific. I initially listed an 8/10 for high beam for now (Honeymoon phase), but with more night driving and an aged appreciation for the car I've dropped that down to 7.5. Good, but could be brighter. Maybe. Where I think the real deference will reveal itself is in inclement weather. The white penetrating light will seperate the divide between halogen and LED even further. For this reason alone I will never buy a car without LED/Xenon again.
In summary...
So, as anticipated, it's the new generation halogen via the standard-looking reflective housing, but not quite as glorious as the upmarket LED adaptives seen in the 206, or for that matter, the old option pack for the standard Alltrack. I would say though you won't be disappointed by the car. Don't let the mid-range LEDs hold you back... The adaptive chassis control and digital dashboard definitely makes up any minor short fall.
Cheers
Nick
