    Smile Alltrack Wolfsburg 12,000k review

    Okay I've had my car 5 months now and done just over 12,000 k's, this is quite a lot for me usually but we took it to Broken Hill for a short holiday which clocked up a few k's.

    In short the car has been brilliant and does everything it's supposed to do well and so far no complains from wife or myself. I actually enjoy driving it to work and back each day and can't see myself getting bored with it like I do so often. I changed the rims to 19" VMR 710's matt black so I have the black and blue think going on. Given the offset is 35 I have about 12mm extra poke which gives it a nice stance on the road.


    The long term fuel economy is currently sitting at 5.9 l/100, again this is a surprise as I expected heavier fuel usage given it's an AWD vehicle.

    I found setting the tyre pressure on 38 psi to be the best for stability and steering inputs. I tried 32 psi and everything between and found the lower pressure made the car too pointy. This I find strange as usually the opposite is true.

    For my general commuting I use the individual settings and ride set on comfort, drive normal, steer sport and find this feels the best for running around town. Love the Sports mode in the mountains but don't bother too much with the paddles.

    This is my first DSG trans car and never even driven one before and lament the fact I waited so long to try one. I drove a work mates GTI the other day and now want one of those as well !

    Not sure where I will get it serviced yet and debating use the dealer or VW specialist, anyone have any recommendations for Western Sydney

    A nice review Just_Westy. I am very happy with mine also. I've got 13,000 km on it since the 7th of April. I also use 38 PSI in the tyres as it seems a good balance. I personally find the Comfort setting too "floaty" so only use it when I have elderly passengers. I agree about the DSG, it's had some bad press but I really love it, this is my second car with it and the third in the family. You get 99% of the pluses of a manual with 99% of the convenience of an auto in my opinion. Those wheels should look nice on the car, you need to post photos!

    I know what you mean about the GTI, I test drove a GTI Performance in 2016, and an R Wolfsburg wagon before I got the Passat. I'm trying to get my wife to get a GTI when she updates her Golf 7 TDI...

    If you want a gti i recommend geting a tune on your wagon it really wakes the motor right up

    Thanks Kachingg that sounds impressive, however what about the emissions standards, it wouldn't still meet those would it? I don't really want a GTI as I found the wheelspin issues I had with the 110TDI Octavia bad enough, but that was mainly due to horrendously bad traction control (maybe it's just a diesel thing, but I have had awesome traction control in the past on petrol cars where it allowed minimal wheelspin and maximum power down, unlike in the 110TDI where it just cut all power briefly).

    No egr or dpf deletes involved so emissions should be ok
    As for wheelspin awd is the bees knees

    I don't see the Alltrack as a performance car so i won't bother tuning it and I've been down that road before with Commodores. Had plenty of them and managed a best of 11.6 @ 119 mph for the 1/4 N/A .

    I find it's quick enough and suspect the TPS mapping is much tamer in the Alltrack than the R line with same motor in it.
