Much of a muchness.
As long as he does all the pulleys and tensioner, and the water pump has a plastic impeller, you'll be fine.
Hi All,
My Passat alltrack is due for a major service and my mechanic has advised that he could either use Dayco or gates timing belt kit which has a water pump included.
Does anyone have any experience with the two brands and which one would be the better one to go with?
I've done a bit of research on the dayco kit and majority of the components are made in europe, bar the water pump which is made in korea, I'm not sure abouts the gates kit thou.

Whats the deal with the plastic impeller are they better?
Dayco is also used as original equipment and is often more comprehensive kit than kits from Continental or INA. The water pump plastic impeller is preferred since it won’t damage the engine block should the water pump bearing fail. Though, I’ve removed quite a few oem pumps that had metal impeller.
