Swapped B6 climatronic module to B6/B7 - WTF

    Greetings,

Swapped B6 climatronic to B6/B7 as the temp dial was playing up. Physically an easy job however I'm slightly confused about the newer B7 unit settings. In the B6 when the yellow ECON light was ON the A/c was OFF. When the the ECON light was OFF the A/c was actualy ON. With A/c ON I was getting good temp. out readings - say around 4-6C.

    my old B6 climatronic

B7 unit - with the light OFF it says the A/c is OFF (opposite to B6). With the yellow A/c light ON the unit is showing ON - again opposite to the B6. Perhaps I'm confusing here this yellow light with the B6 yellow ECON light.

So, Ok I could understand the B7 uses different approach here but how do you explain that now whether with A/c ON or OFF the best cooling I get is 10-12C? So, with the temp selection set to minimum (low) even now in winter I can not get much in the way of cold air coming out. I should add that I did read few of the climatronic related posts and upon fitment I did run HVAC reset & calibrate program.

The other thing I noticed is that with one of the A/c settings (ON or OFF I can't remember which one now) there does not seem to be any air coming out of the centre consol face air outlets. Any ideas?

    Cheers

The lighting logic for the new console is correct; B7 light on = AC on.

Did you update the coding at all? I think most of the B7s used variable output compressors without a clutch, and the older generation used the traditional mag clutch arrangement.

No, have not coded anything. I have not had to connect the VCDS in a long while so can you point me where I should be looking and what coding I need to change? BTW I have not changed the a/c compressor unit itself only the climatronic control.

Just do an auto scan of the car and see if you get any results under the 08-AutoHVAC
There is a compressor run-in procedure that needs doing, too, if the module is replaced.

The b6 has the variable compressor too. No clutch.

I've done the flap adaptation & compressor run in. It completed successfully. During the calibration steps I could see the (low) temperature going down to about 4C. Strangely, now when I turn the dial to LOW the cold output seem to be only about 8-10C but if I select 18C it goes down to about 4C. Maybe the climatronic module I have is jinxed

From memory it had something to do with high speed fan and temp that is low but not maximum low.
4 C might be the lowest but car cannot achieve it with a high fan speed.

I could be wrong though, good job switching.

I know what you're saying - the lowest temp possible should be with selector set to LOW and fan @minimum speed. Those above temps were, of course, measured while driving.

I'm still not getting the correct airflow from the B7 Climatronic unit despite many attempts to re-set it. So I'm wondering whether the following errors could explain why it's not doing what it suppose to.

Not sure if this is correct but I've read somewhere that when you upgrade from B6 to B7 Climatronic you might either have to change the existing coding or in fact add a brand new coding (a bit or a byte so that the system recognizes the new Climatronic unit. Has anybody come across this sort of problem?

The following faults are from the scan log I've uploaded in my other (fuel gauge problem) post.
