Split rear washer hose in tailgate wiring harness??... And a fuse problem

    Hi All,
Had my 2013 Alltrack serviced the other day. Dealer found a water in the rear 12 volt socket and reckon their is a split rear washer hose in the Tailgate (right hand hinge). Apparently the hose is part of the wiring harness and the whole thing will need to be replaced. Car is out of warranty but dealer says VW will help out with 60% of the parts cost. Anybody had the same experience and done a diy fix. The only reason I am asking is the quote (with VW parts discount) was still well north of $500. At the moment I am not using the rear washer so no more moisture in the socket.

Alos having a problem with my trailer and blowing fuses in the car. I have a dealer fitted tow bar and wiring so all the electrics are fine. Right from the start I would get a bulb warning light but all the bulbs (Not LEDS) were fine so I ignored it. About three weeks ago I had the trailer on , got a bulb warning light and then lots of messages and then blew both trailer control module fuses. The trailer works fine on two other cars (neither have fancy electronics) but now has blown the fuses again on my car. Not too sure how to check my car other than plug in another trailer and see what happens. No obvious faults on my trailer. Anybody got any suggestions.

    Thanks in advance
    David

EXACT thing happened to me. Call VW, get it fixed under warranty. (My car was 3 years, 6 months old). It may take a while, but they should come to the party with a free fix. Say things like "I don't expect a 3 years old that has never been in an accident to have a split hose when used for domestic purposes". (Which is the truth)

Update: Plugged another trailer in and everything worked as expected so I think the problem may be intermittent with my trailer. I think I will just rewire it!

With regard to the split washer hose. Thanks for the response,. My car is just 4 years old with only 39K on the clock. Only used for domestic so tailgate is probably only opend once or twice a week. No accidents either. Eaglehawk, did you deal with VW yourself or let your dealer chase it up?

Check for water in the trailer plug on the vehicle.

Also, perhaps there's a link between the washer hose leak and the trailer module?

Personally, I'd just bypass the hose that's in the harness, and run a new one. VW has all the connectors and hoses to make something up from scratch.

Good call on bypassing the loom. Any idea where the hose might have some connections to tap into

Solved the fuse problem. Short to earth on the running lights. Hope the split hose will turn out as easy to fix.

Just saw this thread. A similar thing happened with our 2013 Alltrack just a few weeks ago. The tailgate suddenly closed by itself and hit my wife on the head. It happened again a few more times and then refused to open. Car went in for its 4 year service a few days after that. They checked it and found that the washer hose had leaked and damaged the wiring harness. Whole thing would have to be replaced with parts and labour cost quoted as $2300. Car was out of warranty but the service centre said they would talk to VW and see if they would cover some of the cost. Got a call a few days later to say that the total cost would be covered.

Our car was just on a year out of warranty (purchased May 2013) and with 40000 km on the clock.

Just heard back from my Service Agent. VW will rectify my leaking hose and damaged loom free of charge. Perhaps it is a more widespread problem and design fault. Whatever .. very pleased VW have come to the party.
