    RNS510 - speakers CAN Error

I just performed a rear brake change (used the EPB service option on Carista android app) and I ran a diagnostic sweep on the CAN bus. Came back reporting speaker errors alongside another CAN coding error (both of these errors were present before I did the EPB service - so unrelated)

I had noticed I don't have a front/rear fader option in the head unit, so I'm not surprised to see this error. But I do have some sound from the rear but most sound comes from the front speakers. Aftermarket Bluetooth works (both calls and music integration).

Does anyone have an idea what the cause might be and how to fix it???

Apparently the original owner had the RNS510 fitted after market (or the Bluetooth unit - my memory on this is foggy) so maybe shortcuts were taken or they had no clue...

    Do you have an amplifier?
Check under the front passenger seat.
RNS may be incorrectly coded (bytes 1 and 2) if you do have one.
That could explain the fader issue.

The gateway incorrectly coded is because they have added a device, but not ticked it in the installation list.
This likely will be the bluetooth (telephone) module. Not familiar with Carista and if it can edit the canbus gateway installation list, but it's not a big deal. Just causes a fault to log about incorrect coding. Doesn't affect functionality.

    Hi,

Yeah, there is a Blaupunkt 5K0035456 with HW H06 and SW 0340.

I don't have a VCDS or VAG-COM. The Carista app is just for small tweaks to the car, it just happens to have the EPB service tool functionality which works over a ODB-2 Bluetooth ELM327 adapter.

I guess I need to find someone in Brisbane with VCDS and some knowhow to help fix the coding.

The coding looks quite straight forward, as you said Bytes 01 and 02.
From VW Radio Navigation System (RNS510) - Ross-Tech Wiki

    RNS-510 coding:-
Byte 01 set value 01 (Volkswagen Sound System)
Byte 02 set value 04 (4 Speaker Channels (Front and Rear))

    Should be it I guess.

Yep. fix your RNS coding that will give you fader and balance back, as well as fix up the sound which would have been loud and unbalanced before.
Then correct your canbus gateway installation list.
VCDS or OBD11 are your friends...
