Well, that is a good thing!

Fingers crossed that the issue doesn't return. It's not at all unusual with IT equipment to get the occasional intermittent fault which does not recur.
    Cheers

You can buy a V9 for a ridiculous price or just put up with what you have as there are apparently no more updates for a 510.
Cheaper to spend $150 for a good Tomtom than buy a new VW map. or for a lot more buy the new model VW GPS unit

Or buy an Android based headunit...I had one by Carjoying in my CC. Good value and build quality AND cheaper than the VW maps.

Love to have some more info on how the Carjoying unit worked. I have a 2013 Alltrack with RNS510, reversing camera, sensors gps ect and wonder how easy the install is.
any links or info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

For the camera and gps antenna you can get an adaptor to interface with the unit. The parking sensors work 100% thanks to canbus decoding. The unit I had in mine was good. Large high res screen with wifi, spotify, gps etc. and the install was plug and play. The one I had had been replaced by a newer model: JOYING AU Warehouse Android 6.0 Marshmallow Head Unit Replacement 9 Inch Double 2 Din Car Stereo Upgrade Ram 2GB Rom 32GB Car Entertainment Systems for Volkswagen

Thanks Hugo_NZ. Just had my unit out for a look . took about 3 minutes so looks like the install will be very easy. Did the unit you had work with the phone as well? Does it just bypass the bluetooth built onto the car? What GPS app did you use or did you use Google maps with a connection to your phone?
Sorry about the questions but it is a great help.

No worries. The bluetooth was probably the weakest point of the unit. It was good enough for calls but audio streaming was a bit of a letdown. Also, if your car has Dynaudio you just let them know and they will program the canbus accordingly. I think the nav was provided by Navigon. The unit comes with gps software but if you tether your phone you can use Google Maps or Waze etc.
