Replacement android head unit - Anyone want to share their experiences?

    Hi all,
I am considering changing my RNS510 in my 2013 Passat Alltrack to an android head unit. I really can't put up with the GPS much longer especially at the cost to upgrade maps. Key requirements are to maintain steering wheel control integration, have parking sensor and heating and cooling show on the display, utilise the existing reverse camera (so some sort of converter plug might be required) and also use the existing gps antenna and microphone if at all possible.
Have priced an Alpine unit at $2799 which is way out of my price range.

Any advice, links or suggestions for replacement would be very gratefully recieved.
    Thanks in Advance
    Jock

Replacement android head unit - Anyone want to share their experiences?

I had an RCD 510 in my R36 wagon which I replaced with an Eonon Ga7153a and I love it. A few glitches on my car like no MFD display of audio except a he radio function, but the Bluetooth and reversing camera work well I no longer have to stream google music from my phone as the radio has google play music installed. It has excellent GPS with waze, some reason google maps locks up and no one knows why but I am loving waze. Install of the head unit took 10 mins ( about an hour to run the cable for the rear view camera) and I had to add a DC noise filter on the camera to eliminate video noise from the canbus data. I love it! I can watch foxtel in the car when I am waiting for kids, or dvds or YouTube etc. I bought a virgin mobile hotspot on plan which gives me 15gb per month for $25 a month and now my car even has WiFi for people and the Eonon to use.

I got the gps, camera and Bluetooth ODBII dongle so I can use torque to see the car data and read faults etc.

It’s got a few issues with google maps and a dashboard app I use which changes the home screen which crashes on start up, but these are very minor. For the amount of things it can do like a normal android phone or tablet it is awesome.

Looks factory and even shows the VW logo on boot up. Octacore performance and so many functions now, the list of things it can do is unlimited.

Best thing I bought for the car apart from the car fridge in the back.

    Highly recommended.

Cost me $418 all up for the unit which included GPS dongle and ODBII and I optioned in the camera as well. Delivered to my door from Eonon direct. You can even get a dash cam for it and record to the unit in the micro SD card which support 64gb of storage

you can also get the eonon camera converter for the existing camera to work. the unit comes with a canbus decoder built in so the onscreen displays all still work. including your climate controls. check out the website for the unit for your car

    Cheers,

Yep the Bluetooth streaming is good and the audio is very acceptable using the included windsock microphone on the a-pillar. You can pair more than one phone but you have to manually select the one to connect rather than having both connected at once, which is a shame but not a big deal.
