    RD's R36 - The newest Additio

    Hi All

Been lurking for a while doing research on R36's and I finally bought one.

2010 10.5 Blue R36 Wagon, 1 owner, 65,000K's .... and I am loving it. So much of a step up from my 2000 AU1.5 XR8. My wife has a 2017 206 TSi R-Line wagon in Harvard Blue so these make a great pair.

Mine didn't come with too many extras, Sat Nav, tinting, roof racks, towbar, and a 600W Dynaudio system. No Bluetooth, no Reverse Camera and no auto tailgate. The tailgate I can live without (until I get up the gonads to try and install one), but Bluetooth is a must.

To scratch that itch I bought a 9W7 system along with plug-and-play wiring and foam mount. I have looked at the post on here about installing it but my car seems to be different from the thread in question. Either that or I have no idea what I supposed to be doing.

My interior light has a microphone position and tonight I figured out how to make that area drop down, revealing 2 bolts and a little blank where my mic will go. I assume these are the two bolts that hold the interior light in or is there more than 2?

The foam mount, which seat does it go under? My passenger seat has the audio system amp under it, the drivers seat has a space but the foam mount seems to just sit in the gap rather than push into anything. Oh, and while I was under the drivers seat I found a black box with plugs in it, nothing plugged into it though?

    Anyone know what this is?

Anyhoo, if anyone has any pointers on installing a 9W7 system into a 2010 10.5 it would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers

Hey mate. Welcome to the family!!

I did a 9W7 install in my R36 a while back. I found installing the wiring harness behind the RNS was the hardest part. No real trick it really.

Under the drivers is the correct place for the module itself. Some people have installed it under the RNS behind the climatronics. The foam doesnt clip into anything it just sits there under the seat. Im not sure what that other plug under the driver's seat is for.

When it comes to installing the wiring loom from the driver's footwell under the carpet to the module it will be easier if you undo the 4 bolts holding the seat rails down. That will give more clearance to pull the loom through the correct cutout in the carpet.

    Anyway good luck and enjoy!

The factory installation location is under the driver's seat as mentioned.
Most people however just wrap something around the bluetooth module to prevent rattles (for example that black waffle-type non-slip matting stuff works well) and stuff it in behind the climatronics panel as Domatron mentioned there is enough room. Sometimes easier to cut off the protruding plastic tabs on the bluetooth module as they just make it hard to maneuver back there.

Those plugs under the seat are the back of the seat control module. Never figured out what they would connect to in another scenario...

There are only 2 screws required to be removed to get to the microphone but it can be useful to pull out that whole trim assembly which has another 4 bolts (2 front and 2 back) to give you more room to get the cable in from the top of the A pillar.

Lastly welcome to the R36 club

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Armed with more info I'll give it another go tonight.

Just on those install instruction, will I still need to code things once the install is done? The plug-and-play wiring doesn't do everything? Haven't got that far yet into my R36 knowledge stream, still a very green newbie.

    Cheers

Yes you need to add the bluetooth module to the canbus gateway installation list before it will appear in the MFD so you can actually accept a pairing request.

If you just need some coding done there are plenty of people around Sydney who can help you out.
I'm in the north west but there are others all over.
You don't need access to VCDS (though this is well known and one of the best tools available) OBD11 will also do the job for you.

Been there done that install with my wagon. It's relatively easy as others have described above. I've also installed the reversing camera in my wagon as well. I'm sure I've started threads on both these installs on my car so you can have a search through. Welcome to the R36 club. They are a great car.

Thanks again Guys, will probably buy a VCDS cable, just looking on the Ross Tech site now.

I am in Sydney's West, Riverstone to be exact. If anyone out there would be able to assist it would be appreciated.

Snerlo, been looking at your threads for a while now, will dig them back up. The reversing camera is definitely on my list as is a complete LED fitout and any upgrades that need doing

    Cheers
