Centre Muffler Delete VS Rear Muffler Delete

What is the better option for more noise but not deafening and also will i lose any back pressure etc removing the middle?

I've recently had my centre muffler deleted and installed an exhaust cut as well as a J-Pipe, done by Contact The Muffler Man – Victoria’s largest retailer of aftermarket mufflers and exhaust systems for sale in South Yarra VIC

What i wanted was a similar requirement as yours, more noise but not deafening. If you haven't already done so, do some extensive search on this forum as well as others to get a full picture what you are dealing with. You will find that the R36 has a few resonators and cats that when removed and replaced strategically will produce various results. From DSG farts to raspy and crackling notes (check out custom work done on Youtube).

My setup:
Centre Muffler Delete replaced with a combo of dual J-pipes and Exhaust Cut. Refer to Fixing exhaust drone with resonator tube (aka j tube/j pipe): how to calculate tube length : FocusST for J-pipe calcs.

I wanted slightly more noise (but no drone) on normal driving, and a crazy loud noise setup to appreciate the VR6 note. The Jpipe setup was initially done with only just 1, and it's designed by The Muffler Man that suits a V6 engine. The single J-pipe sounded good initially with the valve closed, but after a couple of weeks of highway driving, i found it drones between 2-3k rpm, which was 6th gear at 100 km/hr.

Being a product designer, i'm ultra picky with things, so i took the car back to have a 2nd J-pipe installed to cancel out the 2-3k rpm. Does it need the second pipe? I'm not too sure myself, but the result was reduced drone only at 2.5-3k rpm, 6th gear 100km/hr, which was an improvement. I was happy after that and stopped experimenting.

Conclusion:
I think deleting the Centre Muffler is a good starting point if you want to retain the existing dual mufflers. Just deleting the centre muffler will drone (wagon, and with my ears). Adding J-pipe/s will help the drone, but because i stopped my iteration process, i can't suggest the best J-pipe length for a wagon R36. However my setup above has achieved better exhaust note for MY requirement based on MY ears.

Hope the above helped, i was thinking of doing a dedicated post of my setup, but since you asked i'll just post my findings. Let me know if you need any contacts to the Muffler Man to clarify the setup they have done for me.

I deleted the centre resonator in my wagon. DSG fart more obvious but not not over the top. Little crackling but no drone.
Cost $150 from Budget Exhaust Bankstown.

Yeah i’ll get rid of this one, seems to be the easiest and best without going too crazy on replacing everything. is this the one you did?
Ill get some flanges welded up on the muffler and on the new piece of pipe so i can bolt the muffler back in if required and same goes the other way.

Yep thats its. Would have liked a bit more DSG fart but sounds great on full throttle.
No complaining from the wife on a recent road trip so all good.
