    R36 Tyre Suggestions

    Hi guys,
Had a bit of a rude shock yesterday when I was advised that my tyres are cactus. Currently I have Bridgestone S001's which came on the car when I bought it but I would like some opinions on options from you guys. To be honest, I really don't want to spend a huge amount so the high performance option really is out of the question. I can't spend the usual $1,200 like I used to. I have a couple of options so far, replace with the same tyres or I was considering the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's. I was also shown some Pirelli Dragon Sports which seem to get reasonable reviews and are quite cheap. Also shown some Yokohama C-Drive 2's at $271 a corner as well as Continental Conti CMaxC5's at $188 a corner (these have a buy 4 get one free special too). Anyone care to share the recent experiences. Thanks a million.

Not sure if helpful or not but just replaced the tires on my passat cc and ended up going with Michelin pilot sport 3. So far very impressed with them considering the last few days of rain and they set me back $175 per tyre ( mates rates) I think they are around the $200 a tyre range.

Thanks mate. Yeah I'm familiar with the MPS3's as I had them on my former turbo Jetta and I was happy with them. Just gotta find a tyre joint that stocks them to get a quote. Going to start a ring around in about two weeks time and hoping here will be some end of financial year specials on. I was doing some reading last night and I think the conti MC5's might be dropped from the list.

Best of luck to you.. I know most places should sell the Michelin (even Costco) so I doubt youl have too much trouble with it..

I've got a a set of wheels with Goodyear AS2's and another with a set of MPS3.

Both are excellent tyres, and would recommend them to anyone.

I will say though that the Goodyears are probably slightly grippier, they feel a bit softer and more performance oriented. They also have a nice sidewall protection feature that helps keep your rims off gutters. The cons are they are a bit noisier that the MPS3. In my sizes, they were also significantly more expensive than the MPS3.

If you're not going for all out performance, I think you'd be perfectly happy with the MPS3.

Speak to Rubal at Goodyear Croydon (Melbourne) for pricing on F1A2's. He does forum/online specials

He can freight these to your door and then pay $20-$25 a corner for fitting/balancing and disposal.

I've bought from him a couple of times.

Hi snerlo, I had the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's on my R36 for about a year before I sold it and can recommend them. Good grip and feel, relatively quiet and wear seemed reasonably (put about 18,000kms on them and I reckon that would go to almost 35,000kms I drove it spiritedly too)

Also had the Conti MC5 on my wife's Jetta Turbo and these were good though the Goodyear's seemed grippier.

I'm a Pilot Sport fan myself also. Have used Conti Sport Contact 2/3/5s and Pirelli P-Zeros, Pilot Sport2/3 have been the best all-round for me.
