Ha!!
Just checking my chassis number on one of the decoder websites:
WVWZZZ3CZAE1#####
The first three digits are the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)
WVW – Volkswagen Germany. (It is always Germany as the assembly plant has a separate identifier)
The next six digits are the Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS)
ZZZ3CZ – the first three digits are only used in America so the default is Z as it the last (check) digit, also a Z. The important letters are 3C, which denotes Passat 6 and CC.
The next 8 digits are the Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS)
AE1#####
The first digit is Model Year: 2008 – 8, 2009 – 9, 2010 – A. (2017 is H.)
The next digit is the assembly plant. E = Emden, Germany
The new six digits are the production number.
Thus if it is an “A” it is a 2010 model, which officially started production in November 2009 but as Brendan advised, it appears a few snuck out in October 2009 with the old Climatronics. I presume that it still has an Australian Compliance of February 2010?
