Actually who cares. Enjoy your ride.
Just trying to clear up the misleading info on the forum. We all know so called VW Professionals are not that professional sometimes.
referring back to above i thought i'd ask the professionals and they said the file they have on the VW system for my VIN states it's a 10.5 and the compliance confirms it was at time of change over.
I really don't care exactly what it is, i'm over the moon with my purchase of such a clean Passat R36 wagon with under 50,000kms but checking against all credible sources it seems it is in fact a 10.5
i'm out![]()

Ha!!
Just checking my chassis number on one of the decoder websites:
WVWZZZ3CZAE1#####
The first three digits are the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)
WVW – Volkswagen Germany. (It is always Germany as the assembly plant has a separate identifier)
The next six digits are the Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS)
ZZZ3CZ – the first three digits are only used in America so the default is Z as it the last (check) digit, also a Z. The important letters are 3C, which denotes Passat 6 and CC.
The next 8 digits are the Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS)
AE1#####
The first digit is Model Year: 2008 – 8, 2009 – 9, 2010 – A. (2017 is H.)
The next digit is the assembly plant. E = Emden, Germany
The new six digits are the production number.
Thus if it is an “A” it is a 2010 model, which officially started production in November 2009 but as Brendan advised, it appears a few snuck out in October 2009 with the old Climatronics. I presume that it still has an Australian Compliance of February 2010?

I skipped the Build 10 climate controls and went to B7 controls and fascia in the endthanks to Kamold for the help. No row of blank buttons and a more modern look

You mean mk6 went to MY12.5?
Don't think I've ever seen a B7 with Mk5 style climatronics.
They changed over the Mk5 to Mk6 in November 2009.

I'm getting my marks mixed up! So my R36 has Mk6 Climatronics and our Golf has Mk7 Climatronics as does Kamold's and Brendan's R36s.
B7 Passats had Mk6 Ciimatronics until MY12.5 and Mk7 Climatronics ever since.
As an aside, I've never seen Climatronics referred to as Mk5, Mk6 or Mk7 anywhere else on the net but on this forum....

It's generally referred to that way everywhere online
Eg
VWVortex.com - OEM MKVI Climatronic on a MKV on a RNS-510 Screen installed.
