I had the same thing happen a while back. Changing the battery in the remote sorted it. There are plenty of videos on YouTube to help out. The battery wasn't expensive either...

Hey all! We've got a B6 Passat wagon, and suddenly my partner has been locked out! She managed to get in using the emergency little key thing that hides inside the fob, and the car started and off she went.
She can lock the car with the remote just fine, it simply wont unlock - not will the trunk button work! The light on the remote lights up for all buttons, and given it is able to lock the car I don't think it's an issue with the fob or battery.
What's happening here? Could the remote have lost it's programming with the car, but still have kept the locking mechanism? I haven't been able to try with my fob yet as I'm at work.

Thanks guys! I guess I figured because I could still lock it with the remote, that the battery was ok - but seems that isn't the case???
Have you tried your spare key
Battery is a CR2032 $6 for two at Woolworths or Coles.

If it's just the battery, will I need to reprogram the key?
