Hi guys,
I'm wanting to change the diesel filter on my B7 2012 TDI, anyone know where it is located?
There are YouTube videos on how to do it.

Great, thank you
Not overly difficult to do, although very easy to make a huge mess. Take your time removing the filter, as it's quite easy to have diesel cascading out of the housing, and all over the place. Also, be mindful of the filter where it attaches to the underside of the lid, as you can easliy break off the fitting, which will prevent the car from running.

There's a few variations. I just order off the VIN to avoid getting the wrong one.

Genuine VW is about $60.
Try them first.

I purchased a ryco filter just a week ago (in stock a bursons in a small town in tassie), It has the same markings on it as the genuine. It was quite easy to do, carefully undo the small torx screws in the top of the base, stuff plenty of rags around the filter canister, which stays in the car, (the lid comes up to access the filter) get a syringe and suck the remnants of the diesel out of the canister and wipe clean. install the new filter, and fill the canister with clean diesel, install the lid being VERY careful not to strip the tiny screws! the car will crank for a little time more than normal, may cough a little but will fire right up (assuming yours is like mine!) I am intending on changing my filter every 20,000 as a common rail needs clean diesel to have any sort of longevity! at 60,000 the original filter was putrid.
