I’d be steering clear of anything with7 speed DSG.
Either get the diesel or a 6 cylinder both have the more reliable 6 speed DQ250 higher torque gearbox.

Hi,
Welcome to Passat.
I have a 2011 125TDI wagon. Great reliable and economical car.
My only recommendation is to only buy the diesel if you regularly do a long freeway drive ( 30min at 100km/h) to activate the passive DPF regen.
Good luck with the purchase.
+1 for that I only use mine when I know it will get hot and stay hot for a while
Should get a decent B7 for under $15k going on prices.
Look for a Highline with all the goodies but dont worry about the GPS . It crap.

Mamba Ebike to replace Tiguan
Go the V6 , we need to keep them in the hands of enthusiast forum types... no DPF issues, and they go something handy wet or dry with the 4-motion...

what next?... what next?
I am sure others are gonna chip in, try and score a highline.
Go Diesel with 6 speed DSG.
Ensure service done as per schedule if timing belt has been done check water pump/body changed as well.
If you have some one in the area with a VCDS, it might be worthwhile checking soot levels in DPF, other errors.
Check for gasket leak and ask about how much oil is consumed in between service.
Ask the owner their pattern of driving. More highway miles is preferred so dont be afraid of reasonably high mileage as long as service done per schedule.
When you hear a clunk on gear change its a sign of trouble. A hesitant gear itself not as much as there might be a regen going on.
Test driving on road as well as highway.
Good luck
Sorry you dont have to read that twice
Hi all, sorry for the kind of newbie in VW/Aus. Why so many bad comments about the DSG 7?
The dry clutch DQ200 7 speed DSG was prone to premature clutch failure, possibly because unlike the DQ250 wet-clutch 6 speed DSG, the DQ200's has no oil bath to help keep the clutchpacks from getting too hot. What this means is if you spend a lot of time in scenarios where the DQ200 has to slip its clutches (ie at walking pace in heavy traffic or using the throttle to hold the vehicle stationary on an incline), it's much easier to overheat the clutch.
There is another 7 speed DSG in VAG's fleet - it's wet clutch and have been fitted to Audis for a while and is now being introduced on the go-fast VWs. Probably not relevant to what you're looking at though.
