    B7 sedan reverse camera failed

I tried searching for answers, and all I could find basically boiled down to “sucks to be you!”
Has this changed? Does anyone have any new information? It just died out of nowhere and I got “optical not available” sort of message. I’ve already tried the old take it apart and put it back together, with no change.
I still have extended factory warranty, so have booked it in with my local VW dealer. Just thought I’d have a crack first to pre-empt the inevitable argument that it’s not covered.

I got the same error when my AllTrack went for repairs for a rear-ender.

We thought it was simply an unplugged in sensor, as it turned out, it was the OTHER end that was dirty and was causing the issue. Sorry I can't be more specific, the body shop took it to my local VW specialist where it spent almost half a day before being fixed. But it sounds like the bundle of cables that connected back to the brains of the car was "dirty".

Thanks for the reply, it is somewhat helpful! I did take the head unit out and inspect, but all seemed fine at that end. I will see if I can check the main ECU harness.

Leave it for the dealer They may not appreciate you fiddling/sorry/ fault finding with it if its a warranty job

Well, as it turns out, the camera seems to have developed a mind of it's own. Right now it is working again, however it has come and gone as its pleases over the last week or so. The only thing that I have done is lower the rear seats to fit some large boxes in the boot. So it seems there may be some connection around there that could be playing up?
As was suggested, I will leave it for the dealer to look at and go from there.

Apparently the boot/trunk harness is common issue to fail. Specially as the boot lid move open/close. See link:

I've since had the car inspected by my local VW dealer, and have been advised of the fault. Apparently when I had my aftermarket amplifier and sub installed, the installer broke a "clip on the control box" for the camera behind the head unit. How this can cause the camera to stop working 2 years after the amp was installed is beyond me. Anyway, I was quoted $200 to supply and fit a new control unit.
The camera has not stopped working since my last update, so it stays as is!

    Thanks for the replies.

    That's gump.
The highline control module for the camera is in the boot on the right hand side.
It's certainly possible that some wiring was disturbed behind the head unit, as there are a lot of wires there, also the canbus gateway module. Maybe that's the module they are referring to. But even if the gateway wasn't sitting on its mounts at all, but just floating freely in the space there it wouldn't cause just the camera to fail. If the harness for the gateway came loose the car would light up light a Christmas tree because nothing would be able to talk to anything.
