    2011 Passat sedan battery selection

    Hi all,

2011 Passat sedan requires new battery. Vehicle has start stop function-

So I am aware the battery has to be special.

Battery world want $400 for varta AGM battery

Super cheap auto want $250 for normal maintainable water lead acid battery.

Should I get the proper varta one or the SCA maintainable one ?

Keeping in mind vehicle has start stop function.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Disable stop start and get an ordinary battery? Allstar Batteries - Home These guys were cheaper for random batteries the other week when I wanted something to go in my Polo.

    Give them a go.

My original Varta battery is also going strong after 10 years. I'll certainly get another Varta next time.
Don't discount buying from a dealer as I got a quote recently and their price was surprisingly competitive.

I've been a fan of Varta until recently...

2 weeks after the 2 year warranty ran out on the Varta silver in my Octy, it died.
Has been almost 2 weeks now waiting on a reply from Varta as to whether or not they'll cover it.
Battery World have given me a spare battery to use in the interim, so can't fault their customer service which I have always found to be excellent.

Given that your Octy is 5 years old so does it mean that your original factory battery (Varta I suppose) lasted for 3 years?

A quick search might have helped you, refer to this thread I started last year.

    I hope it helps!

Yes the OEM Varta only lasted 3 years. I'd consider that a bare minimum pass...3-5years should be standard I'd hope.

    Varta Silver Dynamic AGM 595 901 085
    Article Number: 595901085D852
is the battery for R36 in Varta battery search, it has the exactly same spec as the OEM factory Varta battery in my R36:
    Voltage 12V
    Capacity 95Ah
    Cold Cranking Amps 850A

I sent an online equity about this battery to Battery World yesterday just out of curiosity, I received a call back this morning. This battery is $540 and they dont have, he recommended a Century one which is $510.

I do really want the same battery when I need a new battery, maybe I will sent an email to VW parts for a quote.
