GLWS mate, I was wondering when/if you were gonna come back up and get the old injector pump put back together.... I suppose not???
A great little GLD for sure.
For Sale
1980 Mk1 Golf GLD 1.5L Manual Diesel.
Details
Until recently coming from a dry area in WA, this great little specimen is completely original except for the installation of an aftermarket CD player.
I have owned this car for less than a year, and had planned on keeping it for the next 10 years, however the one and only reason I am selling this is because my father has passed down his Datsun 1600 to me and the mk1 is therefore surplus to my needs. With a young family I can't justify the expenses of paying multiple registrations so unfortunately the Mk1 has to go to a new owner.
I have gone through the massive task of fixing all the little bits and pieces that any current or former Mk1 owner would be familiar with, and now as the car sits it is an extremely reliable car and remains my daily driver to and from work.
Below is a list of things I have done to bring it up to scratch (bare in mind I have spent almost the asking price in parts/labour alone to get it to the current standard it is in today);
- Replacement Head, fully serviced, new guides, valve seats, decked etc etc (under 1000kms old)
- New Head gasket (Under 1000kms old)
- Timing Belt replaced & associated adjusters (Under 1000kms old)
- New oil and filter added when timing belt done (under 1000kms)
- Headlight wiring and both blinker & wipers stalks replaced
- Rubber seal for gearbox selector replaced (common place for small annoying leak).
- Both steering rack boots replaced (under 1000kms old)
- CV boot drivers side replaced.
- Brand new aftermarket factory replacement radiator sourced and installed. The blown headgasket made the end tank leak on the last unit.
- Brand new water pump
- New rear wheel bearings installed
- Replacement Diesel Pump
- 4 new Pirelli Tyres with heaps of tread.
- Lots of other miscellaneous little interior bits and pieces.
Other points
- Starts on first or 2nd crank of engine every time cold or hot.
- Interior is in very good condition, no rips or tears in the seats, only 1 small cigarette burn in the drivers seat (not done by me, I don't smoke).
- The car always ran well but blew a bit of smoke under load (typical for a diesel), now it doesn't blow any smoke period. Very healthy running gear in this thing.
- Paint is average in areas, mainly the roof where the paint is crazed, but definitely not bad overall.
- Custom made roof racks by me, they fit a suitcase and surfboard as the pictures show, they really suit the car but I'm happy to remove them and deduct some money off the price as I wouldn't mind keeping them anyway.
- Fits 2 x kids seats comfortably in the back for any guys with kids.
- Because it came from WA it only has a small amount of rust in the passenger side bottom quarter and drivers side rear hatch in the corner, easy fix or leave as is and treat it as I have done. Pictures of the boot and engine bay will show the condition inside the boot.

Please only genuine inquiries, I have a young family and time is a premium so please don't waste my time or yours. You can find a cheaper car that has had 10 x P plater owners (no offense to the young guys, I was one myself and neglected my cars back then), but I covered all corners with the repairs to this thing so it would be reliable, the fact I drive it ever day in heavy traffic speaks for itself.
