    1997 Transporter SYNCRO For Sale

    For sale:
    1997 VW Transporter T4 Syncro

A rare all wheel drive panel van that has been converted to a camper/day van.

This van has been my personal project for approximately 6 years now. I purchased it as a standard panel van and have spent a lot of time and money converting it to what it is today.
To start with the entire inside of the van was stripped. All necessary repairs were made and then the entire rear of the van was insulated, ply lined and carpeted. The floor was insulated, ply lined then fitted with a heavy duty full length rubber mat. During this process the van was fitted with an external 240v hookup system which is protected by local RCD's. There is also a 2nd battery setup with 12v outlets and LED lighting to the rear of the van. The 2nd battery also powers a 1400W 4 channel amplifier with 2 10" subwoofers and 2 6x9 3 way speakers. These are driven by a decent head unit with aux in, usb/ipod in and Bluetooth hands free. The head unit has two replacement 4" 2 way speakers in the standard T4 dash location. The subwoofers are mounted in a removable cabinet that forms part of the seating/bed.

The rest of the van interior is very versatile. I have designed all items in the rear to be easily removed so that it can be used as a full size panel van for moving things around in (very useful for moving furniture etc.). There is also a 2nd row of seats from a Caravelle installed (again easily removed) which have 2 three point, and one lap seat belts fitted. When fitted out as a camper/day van the 2nd row seats can be removed and extra storage/seating can be installed. I also had a 55l Engel 2 way fridge (not sold with the van) that went into a custom made cabinet.

The exterior of the van is in pretty good condition but is showing signs of it's age. It has had minor repairs made to the paintwork throughout it's life but no major repair work has been done. The van has a 4 bar heavy duty roof rack installed on rails so can be adjusted for different needs.

The engine is a 2.5l inline 5 cylinder (AET) which is in good mechanical condition and is regularly serviced. It has been fitted with an aftermarket (K&N) air filter but everything else is standard. These engines are well known for their reliability and reasonable power (85KW) for a panel van. The Syncro AWD system is in good working order and adds an extra ability to get the van into and out of some of the better and less busy camping spots. Although it is not a true 4x4 system, there is no low range box, first gear is a lower ratio than standard T4 van's so can be used as a crawler gear.
There is a heavy duty aluminium bull bar fitted to the front and a custom built aluminium step/rear bumper fitted.
The wheels are Audi A4 16" alloys in OK condition.
There are a few items that are not quite finished but they don't affect the van in it's ability to be used or driven (I can go through these with any prospective purchaser).

All in all this is an excellent example of a pretty rare VW van. It is a truly versatile vehicle that is easy to drive and brilliant as go anywhere camper. The only reason I am selling is I have taken an opportunity to relocate back to the UK.

The van is now with my Brother-in-law in Success, please come and take a look if you are interested.

Price is $6,500 ono and PM me for pictures.
