    VW cluster faults and repairs

Recently I have had a couple of VW’s with faulty clusters and showing intermittent faults. The last one was a 9N Polo which on hot days would not start. From reading the fault codes it was showing an immobiliser fault.

After eliminating a few components it was narrowed down to the cluster. Once it was removed and pulled apart it was able to be tested and determined that it was the cluster that was causing the intermittent immobiliser error. This cluster was able to be repaired, saving the expense and hassle of having to adapt a used cluster or even a new part to the car.

I have a wide range of gear for testing, diagnosing and repairing electrical faults mainly to do with the security system of the car. I can also read security login codes to adapt new components and program new keys even when all are lost. I also come to you so if your car isn't starting you don't have to worry about getting it towed.

    Nice work!

I've toyed with the idea of changing the colour of the backlight and needles for my cluster but then heard horror stories when it goes wrong. Is this a service that you can offer?

Also can you enable staging (needle sweep on start-up). I've tried using VCDS but doesn't look like the function is supported on some cars.

Soldering in different colour LED's is doable but I think it would take an hour or two to do it properly. It would be easy to damage the cluster by putting the needles on wrong, damaging the servos that they go on or even damaging other components on the cluster so I tend to take my time when pulling them apart and putting them back together.

Not sure if I can enable needle sweep as I haven't looked into all the settings that I can change on the cluster, more than happy to have a look at it for you and see if I can.
