Angry Windscreen for my Polo, O"brian F**KED up! NOT HAPPY!

    Hi all,

I claimed thru for a new windscreen from NRMA (got several chips on it), they gave me O'brian. Last week I went there and halfway thru the installation, they told me Sorry mate, we put too much glue around the edges and we tried touching it up (using a touch up paint) and MAKE IT WORSE!!

So straight after that, they told me. We'll have to get you back in next time so we can fixed it up (with a pro detailer they have).

    What frustrated me was:
    1) If they put too much glue around the windscreen, why the hell didn't they tell me that they've made a mistake instead of trying to cover it up using a touch up paint (which made it rough n dodgy)

    2) I requested they would put in a genuine VW windscreen. but instead I got something else (can't see the Volkswagen logo on the bottom right corner)

    3) why the hell did the new apprentice guy was working on my car? its a new car yet they gave me a newbie worker

what do you think I should do tomorrow? (they've booked me in tomorrow so they can repair and put ANOTHER new windscreen)

    that sucks mate.

dodgy that they tried to cover it up. but in the end they have admitted fault and are fixing it all, so i guess thats a win aye.

just make sure when you get it beck you check every edge of the windscreen to make sure it was done properly.

Make sure you check more than just the wondscreen incase the newbie apprentice or the guys at obrien damage your car in other areas. Had that happen to me too many times at a dealer, etc etc etc and believe you me, its damn frustrating to find out the damage AFTER you've taken the car home cause they'll say anything to deny fault. All the best mate. Gotta change mine soon too. Got a bad chip and a few surface scratches on mine too right at eye level on the drivers side.

I'd also check your paint for scratches. The worst is people working on your car with belt buckles and when they lean over your car they scratch the hell out of the paint.

I say don't be scared to demand an actual respray of the pillars if the detailer can't fix it. Also I would ask to watch the entire work completed on the car, if that means you have to where all the safety gear, so be it.

    thanks guys!

ive just called VW, and they pretty much told me, if it doesn't have SAINT GOBAIN SEKURIT & A VW logo, then the windscreen is an aftermarket! So im quite pissed and they installed an aftermarket windscreen (as i requested a genuine from the beginning).

and yeah i'll watch them! pisses me off for a big company to stuff me around!

No offense dude, but your complaining to a forum.

Suggestions made that you should contact Windscreens O'Brien and ask to speak to a Supervisor or Manager to where you had your screen done.

Advise them that you requested for a OEM windscreen to be fitted and they assured you (if so) that it would.

You picked up your vehicle to learn that the urethane was all over the body of the car and it was very untidy where instead of cleaning the urethane up they followed to use touch up paint (if same colour of your vehicle or not you do not know) to mask the problem instead of phoning you to advise you of the issue(s) at hand.

Request for compensation, do not use they're detailer as he will cut into your paint and use farucla or aglym instead to 'cut' into the paint and remove anything. Take photos as well for proof and also phone NRMA and complain as NRMA takes complaints from their customers very serious and follow up on it very quickly and make sure the customer is as happy as possibly.

    You get the drift.

Once you've done this, then come back and let us know..
    What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

    Thanks Fuzion!

Just rang NRMA. A simple $600 windscreen replacement and turn into a $4,000 job? I ain't paying a single cent to O'brian!

They won't give you a genuine, sorry NRMA state in the PDS the windscreen will be the cheapest they can find and there is nothing you can do about it (more or less). (They're c*nts)

Obviously, you can make sure they do the job properly though. Get a second quote elsewhere and a proper assessment from someone unrelated that who knows what they're talking about.

but apparently according to VW australia, if the car is still under the "NEW CAR Warranty" by law it needs to be replaced by a genuine part. Also i've spoke to NRMA and they wrote me down for a Genuine windscreen in their claim form.

so pretty much if I didn't tell O'brien about the generic windscreen they probably have gone away claiming the invoice as VW Windscreen instead of a generic one.
