i watched the whole process of them doing it on my previous car..

looked pretty easy, just need to be careful wen cutting it with the blade.
they spray soapy water on the window then put the film on it wen its still wet so it can move around to get a perfect fit, then using this tool they slide over the window and presses all the water out wen it drys, its done.

Similar process I used with my rear taillight tint. Works really well. Don't know if this should be done with tint as well, but I had a blow-dryer next to me to make it easier to shape - might distort the clarity of the tint.

    Talking

the main prob is dust and dirt
    they will leave white dots
use baby shampoo with water in a spray
bottle . scrub window clean then start spraying
at top and work down so it will flood off any extra
dirt . most use outside of glass as template just
leaving it slightly bigger. have it very wet when
putting on film makes it easyer to position
use something like a credit card but softer so as not to
scratch film ,work from middle out to remove water
have window down 10mm trim top edge wind up and
finish bottom. don't wind down for a few days
hope that helps haven't done it for 10 + years

Question A few Q's on tinting...

I recall seeing in the glossy that the Jetta windows (presume same for the other models) have a "Heat Insulating Tinted Glass". Didn't get a straight answer as to how much tinting the glass comes with as standard.

    1) In particular, will adding "Midnight Express" - advertised as darkest legal tint - together with the standard VW factory thermal tint stay within the 35% limit?

    2) Is it legal to apply a clear tint to front windscreen to reduce internal reflections from the dash?

    3) Does applying a metallic-based tint to the glass mounted radio antenna greatly reduce the reception?

    1) nope
    2) As far as im aware you are not allowed to put and tint on the front window, but you'd think a clear tint wouldnt count?
    3) yes it does be careful

    Removing old Tint

The tint on my Mk2 is starting to peel and bubble, is probably as old as the hills anyway.

Im thinking of peeling it off and getting it redone eventually, my question is, if i I peel it off, what gets left behind? Any nasty adehsives I have no chance of getting off? Or should i let the tint company remove the old stuff?

Dont mind driving around with no tint for awhile if im able to get the glass cleaned up.

i seriously think just get someone to do it, the guy thats done my tints has done 4 of our cars, mobile service, $200 for 15% tint. i just dont think its worth running around buying tint and all that kinda stuff unless ur a DIY type of bloke.
