Where to get touch up paint, OEM or third party to repair rock chips.

    Hi,

Just noticed that there's a few rock chips on my bonnet that i want to repair, where is best to buy some touch up paint?

I've also heard of some touch up systems that you can buy to help repair some of these easily, which has an applicator and a wipe off system to get rid of excess but how do they work and are they any good?

Any particular brands i should look for?

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

To be honest I would stick with the OEM paint sticks available from a dealer. You get the exact colour match to your car and they are good for fixing stone chips. Most dealers will have them available on the spot or delivered to them within a day or so.
Trick for young players is to use a tooth pick to apply the paint, not the supplied brush. With the tooth pick just dip it into the paint and slowly apply a few drops to fill the chip holes.

Ah ok, do the OEM paint sticks have clear coat as well?

I was recommended a kit by Dr Color Chip, has anybody had any experience with this ?

Yeah love Larry's tips and videos as well as his products!

I've seen that video before (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xi3xmeO6C4) but just wanted to see if there were any other options.

Anyone know how much the dealership sells the touch up for and whether they sell clear coat as well?

    Thanks

Be a long way to drive to get it especially if your car has faded a bit

I tried one few years ago, it's a waste of money.

VW touch up paint (Lackstift set) comes in a kit with two bottles, one the paint colour and the other a clear coat. Costs between $20 to $25.
