What is the Oily/Waxy gunk on the bottom rails of my16 new Golf Wagon?

    Greetings All,

I recently purchased a new 93 TSI Golf Wagon Comfortline. I adore it and can't keep my hands off it...

When I gave it its 1st wash and wax I noticed the bottom rail was coated in some sort of Oily product or something. It's dried into solid drips.

I assumed this was some sort protection and left it alone in my detailing.

Could someone please enlighten me what this is? Should I just leave it alone?

    Many thanks,

    Jsea

    Hi Jsea,

My Tiguan came with the same white waxy stuff along the bottom edge of parts of the sills on both sides. Looks to be anti-corrosion wax which is injected as a liquid during manufacture, and then the excess oozes out of the lower water drain holes in the sills, and also the doors. Maybe our warmer weather softens or melts it a bit so it oozes out for a few weeks from newly delivered vehicles.

I wiped the excess off my car with kerosene on a clean rag, but be careful to first wash/brush off with water & detergent any dirt/grit stuck in the wax, as best you can, to avoid scratching the sills when wiping with the kero.

Thanks Don. That makes sense. I'll keep an eye on it over Summer. I've dedicated a mitt and rags for that lower part of the car so as not to spread it all over the car.
