I have a Lapiz Blue Mk7 R and looking for a bit of a change. After driving a new Mk8 and T-Roc, the $30-40k changeover doesn稚 make sense so I知 thinking of a colour change to white.
I知 curious to know if anyone has done vinyl wrap on their Golf.
How long does it last?
How much would it cost?
A big consideration in regards to "how long does it last" or "how long will it look good for" is:
1) Is the car regularly garaged or left out in the sun day and night?
2) Do you take care of the car well (eg wash regularly and remove bird poos etc quickly)
3) Will you use dedicated vinyl wrap car wash etc
4) Are you looking to have it done as cheaply as possible (eg poor quality wrap and questionable prep and installation) or are you looking to buy good quality wrap and have it done professionally.
Its usually $3-4k for good quality wrap and done by a professional shop on a smallish car like a Golf. You may be able to save a small amount of $$ by doing some of the prep work yourself like clay barring the car to remove contaminents in the paint and leaving a super smooth finish, and removing tar spots etc with a iron remover.
Im sure the installer could give you a better idea on how long you could expect it to last - but from what I have seen around 4-6 years can be expected if you look after it well and the car is not left out in the weather all the time.
Also - are you sure you want to go to this expense to have.....white! The most common colour on our roads! The wraps come in such awesome colours these days - candy red, candy green, candy purple, dark metallic green, nardo grey etc etc. I think if you want white you will be underwhelmed....perhaps sell your R and just buy a white one.
