Seat Cordoba Front Seats into Mk1

Boys Boys. Please let there be no talk of cutting and welding. These can be fitted into a Mk1 in the following way.

1. You take the two parts of the seat apart, by undoing the pivot bolt behind the two covers on the side of the seat.

2. Turn the bottom part of the seat over.

3. Using long nosed pliers unbend all the wire loops holding the seat fabric onto the seat.

4. Lift Padding off seat.

You now have all the padding in one hand and the seat base in the other. Swop the metal base with your current golf one, the bases are the same, but with different width legs. And reverse the steps to reassemble.

This is the best way of doing this swap, as they slide smoothly at the end of, rather than welded back together ones! It works for all VW Audi Seats. I have put Mk3 Seats into Mk2s and Mk2 and Audi Seats into Mk1s.

I`ll even modify these ones for you if you want them, you need to provide old seats though, either 3 door or 5 door.

If you peel the back apart too, you can even make the seat fold forward, but thats in the next installment..........

Right, finally got round to doing the seat conversion. Check this out.

1. Old Golf Seat and Newer Cordoba Seat. (Guess which is which!)



2. Remove the plastic cover over the bracket by pushing the plastic pins through the cover and not loosing them. Then the cover pops off.



3. Then you can remove the U type clip, shown taken off and resting on the seat in this pic and undo the cross head screw.



4. Then turn the seat over and do the same the other side. The seat will now split into two pieces, top and bottom.

U inspired me to get some seats!

Where the heck do you get seat cordoba seats from? I rang around a few places and they dont have them. I ended up just getting the same seat, minus the rips and tears.

Also, how on earth do you get the old seat out of the car... i looked everywhere for screws and bolts, but found nothing.
Hopefully i can get stuck into it tomoz

To take the seat out, at the middle of the front of the seat it a bolt. On early cars it is a stupid clip with a phillips head screw. remover the screw or bolt and then sit in the seat and push it back as far as you can and off the runners at the back.

5. Turn the bottom piece over. There are two wires coming out of the bolster and twisted around the seat legs. Loosen these off with pliers.
There are two spikes that hold the padding in place along the sides of the seat and two plastic clips at the front. Remove all these and you can take the padding off the metal base.

Repeat steps 1 - 5 with the other seat.

You should now have two metal bases, which have different width legs, but the same size bolster.



Swop the Cordoba padding onto the Mk1 Golf metal base and do step 5 in reverse order.

Then simply take the Cordoba seat back and fix it to the Golf Bottom.

Do steps 4-1 and you end up with a nicely upholstered seat which will run smoothly on the Mk1 Golf Runners.



Suitable donor seats are Seat, Audi and Later model Golf ones.

The seat shown is a 4 door seat. If you want to do this for a 3 door seat, you need to undo the skin for the top half of the seat and swop the two top half frames so that if folds forward. Or use 2 door Ibiza seats not Cordoba, so they have the folding mechanism already.
