Removing white residue from black bumper plastic

    Hi all,

My dad has asked me, and I don't know, so I'm asking here. He washed his new car (not a VW) a few weeks ago and whilst using Bowden's auto body cleanser, it left a white residue on (or has damaged) the black plastic bumpers of his car:

He has tried some products that are supposed to restore plastics and vinyl but they haven't worked. He can't get it off and I have no idea what to do here. Any suggestions?

Any help would be appreciated. Next step is to pay a pro.

    Thanks!

    - Matt

It really looks like polish on the bumper.

Quite probably what it is. I've suggested some all purpose cleaner and a soft tooth brush to start with

I've had good results with Mothers Naturally Black Trim & Plastic Restorer
Used to be called Back to Black.

If it is just wax then maybe try alcohol wipes.

Apparently my old man has already trued Back to Black, but with no luck. I still think it just needs more elbow grease. He's going to try a bunch of things this weekend. The alcohol wipes are not a bad idea either. Thanks!
