One of my jobs on "gunter"(my 76 4door) today was to dismantle the front bar bash it straight and put it all back together.
Had no probs as far as heating the clips up goes I did nothing it was a miserable cold day.
The old girl kinda looks good well better than before.

I used a hairdryer to heat the plastic and soften it, so that it came apart with a little prying with a screwdriver. Went back together okay, except I need to put it in a vice or press it together in some way to reseat the clip parts properly in the reinforcing bar - that's what the manual says too: use a press.

Thanks Guys, I am going to try the heat gun (on low!!!) then once in bits, off to the nice sandblaster man.
On a side note I have arranged to buy a straight, rust free pair of steelies for $200 each. While that might sound a little steep they come with a free 2 door LSPics to come after delivery
