    Painting GTI front grille

I'm going to respray my front honeycomb grilles to make it look new and blend the new black badge to the grille.

It's an 05 model so the grilles are starting to look a bit shabby. I was just going to mask up the red strip and respray it myself with some touch up paint. Either satin or gloss black. The body colour is metallic black.

Any thoughts or tips on the idea?

Instead of painting why not try one of the back to black style products.

Car Care Products have a few available, I'm sure they can suggest what's best.

Would be cheaper and easier than painting.

I have used a Meguires plastic restorer on the grille before, which took forever and has already worn off.

The main reason I want to paint it is to match the new black badge I bought to the rest of the grill.

Go with the satin IMO. You will need to properly prep the grill first and then prime it with a plastic primer. You will also need to use a plastic paint for the top coat. It would also make it much easier to maintain if you layer a satin clear over the top as well.

Thanks Dan. Good tip on the clear coat.

Anyone know any good aerosol plastic paints to use? I don't have a compressor and spray gun big enough for the job.

Hobby shops sell plastic paints in aerosol. Otherwise an automotive paint supplier should be able to mix up whatever you need and pack it in an aerosol for you.

Thanks again Dan. I've used the tamiya aerosols a few times on models. They give a great finish actually. I just wasn't sure how they'll hold up on a car front, exposed to the elements. I didn't know paint suppliers could do that. I'll see how much it costs.
