    Paint protection

    Gday guys

I've read so many of the reviews, and tips...

I have my Tig on order, and its only a few weeks away.

I originally didnt bother getting the paint protection, and told the VW dealership that it was too expensive for what they wanted....Basically to cut a long boring story short, they practically "threw" the paint protection in (was like $100).

The $ is not the issue, should I be worried that they are going to screw the paint ? would VW give their cars to someone dodgy ? Is that a problem if I let them go ahead to do their paint protection. ?

In your opinions, should I tell them not to bother ? Should I ask them any questions ? What products they use etc... ?

Would love to get your feedback.

Provided they order a subcontractor who knows what they're doing, you will be fine. You've got warranty etc....just take pictures of the car beforehand and make sure they know if they've screwed something up (which I doubt they will).

Normally I'd say steer clear of paint protection because any detailer could do something better for your paint for only $250 or so, but hey.. your price is cheap haha.

paint protection has to be the biggest mark up price for the dealer! like mickey said, you'd pay a hell lot cheaper if u get it done by a detailer, plus you get to see what & how they do it. Plus where as the dealer could easily take your $100 and you wouldn't know its there or not.

In my opinion, I wouldnt bother. Just another way for the dealer to take the extra $$$ from you. Last resort, DIY.

We can provide numerous DIY or detailer 'fitted' alternatives to dealer offered paint protection.

IMO, I would never pay for it. It is widely known as a mark up product for dealers to make a quick buck on. They don't care and in most cases the warranty is worthless. We have tested various products and they don't last the claimed life span.

Some of the newer products that they are trying to push come with life time warranties.... But ask yourself this:

    - Why do the cars come with a 5 year 'rust' warrant if the paint on top is will be guaranteed for life?
    - Why do dealers sell rust proofing to cars that already have a 5 year guarantee?
    - If these paint protection systems were so dam good and they genuinely coated the paint surface in a protective coating, would the manufacturer or even dealers not have them applied to every vehicle in factory before the vehicles are transported? This would minimise any chance of paint defects during transport and storage.
    - How many people have bought a 'dealer demo' and been offered paint protection? Why did the dealer not apply it to the car when they owned it as a demo?

    Food for thought…

I had the (very expensive) dealer paint protection on the Jetta, seemed to me that the product it is worth having because the dirt always washed off very easily, the paintwork always felt extremely smooth and always looked glossy but it was not anywhere near worth the dealer price.

I refused the dealer's sales pitch when I bought the Eos and today had DMS Dan apply paint and leather protection to the Eos for a fraction (and I mean a fraction) of the price the dealer was asking.

I personally don't trust dealers in regard to paintwork, seen too many horror stories on this forum, a high quality detailer or DIY are the options I would look at.

    Cheers

Just for the sake of backing up a point, I still agree with all of the above. If you're happy to say no to the dealer and to get it done by a real detailer for a bit more money, then that is a) a much safer option, b) a much NICER option, and c) a better option for you as a car owner, because the detailer will be able to give you all the advice you need on washing and caring for the paintwork and interior properly
