Opti-Coat PRO+ vs Ceramic Pro
Hi all,
I'll be picking up by new MY16 Octavia RS Wagon sometime in the next few weeks, and am looking at getting after-market paint protection & tinting done immediately after pick up. I've narrowed my wish list down to 2 products - the Opti-Coat Pro+ and the Ceramic Pro. I've read most of the relevant threads on these forums, as well as on whirlpool etc., but am looking for some more specific opinions from people who have used both products as to which is the 'best'. My (very limited) understanding is that they are essentially a very similar product, however, the Ceramic Pro can be applied much thicker (more layers) to a maximum thickness of 30 microns, whereas the Opti-Coat Pro+ maxes out at around 2 microns.
I am picking the vehicle up on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, but my original intentions were to take it into Brisbane to get it tinted and Opti-Coated at Solar Style (an installer I have used before with great results). However, since reading about the Ceramic Pro, I'm wondering if this would be a more suitable option? The installer I think I would use would be Auto Glamour (again in Brisbane). For convenience, I would prefer to use Solar Style as they are somewhat of a one-stop shop for both tinting and paint protection, but the Ceramic Pro is appealing. I'll be getting some more detailed pricing today (as that may obviously be a factor), but interested to know peoples thought.
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks in advance.
Kenny.

Hi. I got my RS wagon tinted at the RACQ shop near Strathpine -couldn't be more happy with the job they did and the price was great. They made the front and rear windows the same darkness as well (the rear are already kind of tinted from the factory).
I didn't bother with any paint protection, just used a clay bar then gave it two coats of wax.

Hi arriba, thanks for your reply. Sounds like you got your Skoda in the Brisbane/Sunny Coast area? Do you mind if I ask what the RACQ tint cost? I've used Solar Style on my previous vehicle and was very happy with the job. Yes, I'd be interested to see how well the privacy glass can be matched into the new tint. Do you know what manufacturer/model of tint you got and at what VLT %?
What colour is your RS? Mine is the Race Blue, and I am pretty keen to get some kind of paint protection done (a little time poor, so anything to make keeping it clean is good for me!).
Thanks.

I also have the race blue. Will look later for the receipt which has the VLT on it too. At the time I looked their price was better than any other quote I got. Has lifetime warranty too which is probably standard anywhere?

Thanks for that, appreciate it. I'm expecting around $300 for the tint, but not sure until I get there. Yeah, I think most products generally have a lifetime warranty on the tint itself - normally labour is charged on-top for any warranty works. I'm thinking the Suntek Carbon XP (CXP) - thinking maybe an 18% all over but will see what matches in well with the privacy glass.

Use an authorised Opticoat detailer and you'll be all good. You will have a warranty and after sales support as well.
With a new car, the thickness of the coating isn't the most important factor because the paint has plenty of clear coat on it. Most importantly, don't let the dealership detail it (I have seen scary amounts of maring from just one dealership wash), this is so when it arrives at your chosen detailer minimal polishing will be required before the Opticoat is applied, therefore preserving clear coat. Your chosen detailer can (should) give you advice on how best to wash your car to avoid marring and needing heavy polishing in the future. The better you maintain the paint, the longer it will last.
NB I have no affiliation with Optimum or Opticoat

I have tried both Opticoat Pro and Ceramic Pro on my cars and they both look great new. Both will last very well if you keep the car washed regularly and sprayed with a detailer.
