    Opti-Coat 2.0 not so permanent

    Opti-Coat review from Autogeek forum:
    Opti-Coat 2.0 not so permanent...
Well, I've applied Opti-coat 2.0 on 5 vehicles so far. It is completely gone on 2 of them and is already disappearing on a 3rd. I'm not sure what its status is on the other two as I haven't seen those vehicles since applying it. Those three I know for sure have only seen touchless washes or washes by me.

The jeep received the Opti-coat 2.0 about one year ago. It beaded and sheeted water like crazy for a couple months afterward. Here is a video of the hood after being washed twice and how it reacts with water.

As mentioned in the replies, a build up of contaminants on the surface or poor application is the cause of the poor performance.

A mild non abrasive paint cleaner such as Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite or Prima Amigo by hand will remove the contaminants and return the orginal beading properties.

Opti-Coat needs to be applied to very clean paint that is free from any polishing oils, residues, etc.

For the record, I have no affiliation with Optimum Polymer Technologies.

I think you can presume that all claims of durability, longevity and amount of product required for application made by manufacturers and sellers are highly suspect for all these coatings or any protection product. They may apply only in absolutely perfect conditions - a factory fresh, then prepped, paintjob, and for a car stored under cover in a climate controlled garage, which is never driven.

There's nothing suspect about the claims of Opti-Coat. You can refer to the test results conducted by CSIRO.

You are correct though in most cases, such as the products Merrick peddles. These sealants are laughable and the reason paint protection has such a bad name.

The Opti-Coat 2.0 product used in the forum link is our consumer version, supplied to everyone and anyone without any training. I understand in this case it was a build up of contamination on the surface, but usually the culprit with this product is poor application techniques. Something that isn't an issue with the Opti-Coat Pro product.

The easiest way how to deal with someone else’s opinion is to delete his reply, isn’t it Joel?
As Chris from Optimum Product Support said the process sounds solid and it looks like problems are starting to pop up. As you said Joel (quoted) “These sealants are laughable and the reason paint protection has such a bad name” and Opti-Coat is no different, just another “Me too product.”
Your CSIRO test is good as the value of the paper written on it. They did what you asked them to do with your supplied samples. Who knows what was on the samples? It reminds me about somebody told me he bought a diamond ring for his wife and at the end it was most likely cubic zirconia.
