MK5 jetta B pillar and chrome grille detailing help

    Just after some advice guys,

Since we brought our mk5 jetta earlier this year, i have noticed that the matt black B pillar on the exterior is covered in a hazy kind smudgy mist.

After a lot of washes it has not budged at all and is really annoying me.

I presume it is from all the plastic protection film that they cover the cars with for transporting them new.

Any ideas of what i can use on it or does anyone else have the same thing?

Also what does everyone use to polish up there chrome front grille?

My gut instinct would be to use a light polish on the b pillars as they're painted plastic so technically should react the same way as bumpers....but I could be wrong, so if someone would like to correct me then please do.

Chrome front grille is plastic so again just a light polish, I'd say maybe dodo juice lime prime, by hand? I'd suggest protecting it with wax or sealant after polishing as well.

If you polish mat paints, they will usually become glossy. I wouldn't do this yet.

Have you got pics of the residue on the pillar?

The second picture looks a lot worse than it actually is. I had to use the flash so it could be seen better.

    So it's not that bad.

The day I bought my Jetta,I was not happy with the finish of the B pillars ,as they looked similar to yours.

I went back to the dealership the following day,and had them replaced under warranty.

I used to wash the chrome grille with water, and polish it up with a high quality cloth.

It ALWAYS looked good, nice and shiny.

Before you do anything, take it back to Burwin, and see what they can do.

South Yarra replaced mine, but that was on a 1 day old car....

The jetta is currently at VW and they are going to have a look at the pillars and see what they can do, hopefully they might just replace them.

For your chrome grill give this stuff a go. Car Care Products / Autosol / Exterior / Metal & Chrome Polish / M1 Cleansing Polish
I used it yesterday for the first time and was impressed
