Mk5 GTI rear drivers side door won't unlock

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get my rear drivers side door to unlock, it makes the click noise of the actuator trying but it can't do it. There is no knob to lift or button to unlock it, the handle inside won't open it, can't take the trim off as the door is closed, so I'm stuffed! Help please!!!!

get someone to press the remote open/ close multipul times fast while you pull on the inner and outer door handles multipul times.. 99% of the time the door will open this way after about 30 seconds.. then you will need a new latch unit....VDUB...

Thanks, will try that tonight! Any suggestions on the best place/price to get the latch unit?

This might not be useful, and i don't know if it would cause this problem. But just check the child lock on the outside of the door when it is open. If it is caught in the middle or jammed maybe moving that might fix it.

    Good luck

Yeh just tried the quick lock/unlock idea, didn't work. Need to get the trim off but while the door is still closed, going to be tricky! Any other ideas?

Pearce, will check that out once i get the bugger open!

If the Golf doors are the same as a Passat you may have fun as after you get the trim off there is a metal skin inside that that is riveted in and looked pretty hard to remove. I was only fixing rattles so didnt investigate further

Well I gave it another go, press the unlock button on the drivers door and pull the inside handle. Time it exactly to the first clunk and on the 4th go, boom it opened. Now it opens and closes fine.. Now i guess i have to replace the locking mech.

You will have to remove the outer door skin panel to fit a lock unit, you dont take off the inner panel.. you might find that it fails again but you should be able to open it like that again when you get the new lock... my jetta does it now and again but dont use the rear doors so not fixed it yet!!...VDUB...
