    Would polishing just gloss the clear? I had the idea that polishing fills/skims the top layer of clear, not change the effect of the paint.

    Abrasive polishing will remove a very very small amount of clear. I havnt had any experience with satin clear so i cant say for sure how it will respond, but all the research i have done (admittedly not a huge amount) says you cant buff it.
