If it is a daily driver then I would say a clean and condition every 3-4 months as a minimum, if the car only ventures out at weekends then still every 6-8 months.
I would always recommend a leather shampoo/cleaner followed by a conditioner. The first opens the pores of the leather and is designed to remove dirt gently from the surface and the grain. While the leather conditioner then imparts moisture back to the leather keeping it soft and supple.

Good products for newish leather are Duragloss, Zaino, Swissvax for older leathers that a bit of restoration then perhaps Leatherique.
