How to clean wax applicator pad?

Hi all,

This may be a really silly question, but will appreciate some advises on this.

I've never been into cleaning my own car and would take my old car through a auto car washer once in a blue moon, but all this changed when I bought my first brand new car 3 months ago- a Polo TSI 77!!!

So now I wash every week/ every 2nd week, and also started to wash my wife's old mitsy lancer (which only get washed 1-2x per year!!!).

I've waxed both cars with Megs Gold Class wax with Megs applicator pad, now my question is how do you guys clean the pad afterwards, or do I have to clean it at all? Of course being wax and water soluble I've found it very hard to clean, and have tried to squeeze as much residual wax out of it as possible, but it's still very "waxy" after all that.

What do you guys do?

Yeah wax is hard to get out of those foam pads. I used hot water (with gloves) and dish washing liquid, seems to work

same way you wash your wax cloth. In the washing machine but dont use softeners? Im not the most anal of car detailers but that seems to work ok to me

I just put the applicator pads in the washing machine with my micro fibre cloths once I've finished cleaning and then use this : Car Care Products / Mint / Car Accessories / Cloths & Chamois / MWash

I also use the Mint Mwash to clean my applicator pads and MF cloths, works a treat.

When washing MF cloths use warm water as hot water kills them over time.

For buffing pads however if you do have polish compound and so forth you can soak them in a bucket of warm water then rinse them out a few hours later or the following morning under a running tap.

soullighter however, i would recommend you probably use something a bit more "long term" protection than the meguiars but saying this i know its quite hard to find anything over in kiwi land as well!

Yeah CCP, it's quite limited as to we can find across the ditch here.

I have one of those paint protection packages (Duratech) on my Polo so I haven't been waxing it; it's my partner's mitsy lancer that I've washed and waxed over the weekend. CCP, what's a bit more "long term" protection, do you mean sealant? I'm thought a wax should provide at least one month of barrier defence against the elements.

Another question, I'm starting to notice light swirl marks on my black polo, only noticeable under bright light at an angle, what's the best way to get rid of it, will clay bar (if I can find one) do the job?
