How to change/alter a Black car

I am slowly cooking ideas for a possibly colour change on my Black Bora.

Am I right in assuming that a Pearl or Kandy over a dark (in this case Black) base thats been cleaned and keyed should be darker than normal and show tinges of black at angles?

What exactly are you referring to as normal - ''darker than normal''?

If you want your black to stay as the base coat, it'll need to be keyed(wetsanded i assume?) and then painted over in the same colour, because you'll just see the wetsand marks otherwise. A pearl colour over the top will change the looks depending on what colour the pearl is, and how big the flakes are. I'm not sure on the candy colouring.

sorry. by normal i meant will the shade of the new colour going over the top be affected by the black base and therefore be darker in shade than it was originally?

I am open to all ideas. and being black now, i figure work with it rather than take it back to a neutral base for other colours i could use the black as an effect.

Ohh, I see what you mean!

Well the quick answer is yes. Putting say, a red pearl down onto a black car rather than something like a silver or orange car will mean the red will have a darker hue. It will reflect differently to every other combination, so it's really just about your preference with what combination you want.

If I were you, I'd talk to a paint shop like VG Auto. They're in Girraween and they sold me my paint. They know their stuff and have a heap of samples on the wall for you to have a gander at

so similar colour to this would come from a red pearl over black?

do i still have to key and re-spray in black first to bring my original base coat up to scratch? as in, its metallic so am i up for the bodywork and prep PLUS my original paint before i look at the red pearl and clear?
