magic! new deep pile carpet... cost me about 2 hours and some zip ties, the carpet is an offcut.
hey dudes,
well the lead up to the 'nats has made me go a little silly and i thought i'd cut up an old carpet i had... for the good of all ofcourse.
what you do is lay the carpet down, and cut lines in it suc hthat it will lie flat to the ground.... this gives you a "net" - remember from primary school?
you'll find that the cuts you need to make happen on diagonals and end up making little v shapes once the carpet is flat. you may also need to cut right through some sections and have a totally disconnected flap.. this is ok.
once your net is done, lay it upside down ontop of your upside down new piece of carpet. you can mark out with a marker where you need to cut. also mark out specially where you have cut the original carpet, so you know where to jointhe new one.
cut out your new "net" with a good sharp razor blade knife - use a cheap one, with the snap off blade but extend it out to a few inches or you'll be cutting carpet forever
once you net is cut out, you can begin "stitching" it together at the cut places. this will form the shape of the carpet. i've used zip ties because they are quick and easy, and this is an experiment. you may be able to improve on this with some colour matched embroidery thread and a nice big needle. i doubt it would take much longer to do it that way.
you can stitch the whole thing.... make sure you stitch it on the underside silly!
when you've done stitching, flip it over...
