If it's just the head of the tox bit you can dremel a slot into it then use a flat head screw driver (which is what I did when one of mine was screwed). Just need to track down a replacement bolt for afterwards

Can you access it from the other side to tack weld?
Can you get a screw driver under the head of the screw to lever up as you undo?
    Can you drill it out?

It will still turn when you will try to drill into it. I would attack it with the dremel.

Will try but it's the screw under the honeycomb grille just under the number plate... Tight...

I would say go with the leveraging idea (screwdriver under the head)

Otherwise you need some really strong magnets!

Undo the other three screws and pull on the front panel as you're unscrewing to pull the head? Probably need two people

    ok guys... update time.

my wife and i had a go at taking off the grille again, we tried multiple different ways to get the bloody screw out... frustrating as all hell. Then we tried to take off the 'gti' badge which was bloody impossible to do without breaking it. hence, it's still on the grille.

so, long story short, the screw won't come out and i cant change my 'gti' badge. i'm going to buy some spare screws and drill the damn thing out this weekend.

any other non destructive suggestions appreciated.
