Hey mate!
I myself bought a car (95' VR6) with hail damage, but on the bonnet.
I needed a cheap way out as i didn't have much cash.
I used the method your saying, i bought some lightweight body filler from Supercheap Auto, and some Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap from eBay.
Simply grinded the bonnet with an electric sander using 120grit, then simply applying the Body Filler to all the dents!
Then just spent some time sanding it all off and making it all flat and one smooth surface.
Then I just simply covered it with Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap!
I know it might be frowned upon by some Dubbers, but the Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap is a cheap way to cover those dents, depending where they are!
So to answer your question, if you don't want to take your car to a Panel Shop, and don't want to break your bank!
Just buy some Body Filler - $10, some sandpaper - $Few Dollars, and some Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap from eBay - $50 for 1.5mx1.5m.
Good luck with the dents
Mim
