Some tools that may come in handy are small hard-bristle brushes, razors, things like goo-remover or tar/adhesive remover, and perhaps fishing line? Be careful using acetone on the plastic as well, as it may melt or warp it a bit.
I can only comment on getting residue off of paint because that's a small part of my job. This sort of job is always a MASSIVE pain in the ass, so don't be too disheartened if it doesn't work for the first few hours
you've just gotta try and try and try.
If it were me, I'd try carefully scraping the gunk off with a razor after spraying some goo remover or adhesive remover on there and letting it sit for 30 seconds to a minute. Do small sections at a time though, because is the remover liquid dries up then it becomes useless.
