ok thanks for response
not using cham wow anymore. I initially thought it was the same stuff as the chamois you get at supercheap.
just got a meguiars superglide chamois. Hope thats better at absorbion as well.
i use a waffle weave, el cheapo job but i keep the edges off the paint, it lifts a lot of water, and it's microfibre.
re cham-wow, i have something similar- your now-in-every-household super absorbent cloth that is tough, extremely wringable etc....
the material they use in those is called rayon, and if you brushed a semi-wet cham-wow against your skin, you'd find that actually, it is noticably abrasive.
for that reason, it mightnt be the best solution for drying your car.
go to a supercheap and get a microfibre waffle weave [i got mine from big W - it has a check pattern and is some local aussie brand]. soft to the touch, my roof still looks like a mirror afterwards [before i wax], and lifts lots of water to boot.

A chamois is flat meaning that any small bits of grit or dirt that get trapped under it will de dragged across the paint surface, causing swirls. A Waffle Weave is made of microfibre and has pockets so any grit will become encapsulated in one of the pockets by the fibres and wont cause swirls.
