    Cream leather longevity

    Hey all,

Considering the cream (shetland) leather option for a new mark 7. How are mark 6s holding up over the years with the cream/light coloured leather option? Is this a bad idea? Any tips to deal with jeans etc?

    Cheers!

Very few Mk6s were sold with the cream leather actually. Ryan_R is one of few that I know whose Mk6 had it; you may want to PM him.

I've moved your post into the Trim/Detailing forum, as you should get some good advice on leather life/protection/treatment here. See also these threads:

Cream leather is not so much the problem as the light coloured carpets which get dirty quickly.

Not sure what carpets come with the cream leather option in the Mk7 whether they colour match the interior or go two tone with a dark floor.

I've had cream leather in a previous car and it does require a bit of work to keep it clean (baby wipes are cheap and work well).

Not a VW, but my father has a Subaru Outback with the cream leather interior (carpet, dash, seats etc all cream). He isn't one to care for his car at all, and not surprisingly the interior looks horrible. The carpet in particular, is stained from muck on your shoes etc.

The ONLY way i would consider cream interior is either:

1x you completely don't care how it looks
1x you are completely anal about cleaning it to keep it looking as good as it can

It's a high maintenance interior colour if you want to keep it looking good.

Two tone is probably the best option if you like the cream leather. It does look nice and may not get quite as hot as black.

I had a demo with fabric interior re trimmed with cream leather in a previous car and it looked great. Aftermarket leather was better quality than standard and cost about the same as adding the leather option win-win.

Plus the dealer got to shift their demo so it worked out well for everyone.

I have it in the Passat and it does require regular upkeep Like monthly or so. I don't use it a lot so longer intervals between mine.

Am about to buy some cleaner as they are a little bit grubby as haven't done them for a while. Has black carpet but cream in the boot which is not a good idea really

I am not allowed to use it with old clothes on however LOL

    I use Megulars products

Both colours will get dirty, the obvious difference is that the light interior shows the dirt easier. If you're one to look after it that can be a good thing as you'll get the early warning.

I haven't been anal with mine and probably due for a leather shampoo & conditioning. The biggest pain as already mentioned is accideantlly dragging dirty footwear across the plastic trim. The other bugbear is when mechanics don't wash their hands and then make a mess of the handbrake lever (not a problem for Mk7).

Or a Passat lol I have put 3M film on all my door sills and also on the S/S trim on the sills to stop scratches. Wish I had done it brand new as the S/S got a few before I did it.
