Needs to be machine polished. Here is a 50/50 of a Pillar.

Can we do this ourselves with a rotary hand-held buffer from say SuperCheapAuto?

Are you experienced with rotary polishers? Exercise caution. I've seen some guys hand polish but the VAG ones are quite hard to remove deeper scratches from. It took me 30 seconds cleaning up light marks on Focus but the Skoda needs added correction, mine are worse than yours.

I'm going to give it another shot using different pad and polish combo. If I get good results happy to help you as you're in Perth, I'm using dual action polisher, I wouldn't be using rotary.

Go for a random orbital if you are not a professional I reckon. They are harder on your hands and less efficient, but much less risky to use.

I used my random orbital to polish my audi's headlight lenses with good success (using a lense repair kit ofcourse!)
