    Cleaning my .:R32 engine bay.

    Hey all,

I have a mk4 32 and it's in desperate need of a good engine detail, what do (if you choose to) do to give it a good proper clean? Do you remove anything or cover anything in particular? I saw a thread about engine bay cleaning but wanted to specificly find out what you guys do to your .:R!

As with all newer engines it's fairly safe to use a high pressure washer over the whole thing because the engine covers are plentiful. Give the engine a good spray in something like carby cleaner, or a multi cleaner that is NOT pH neutral (you'll want the oomph of a non-neutral pH wash) and let it sit for about 1 minute or so then just pressure hose it off. If you want to dress the engine after that, get some 303 aerospace protectant onto the black plastic and rubber.

Of course, if your engine is dirtier than normal, you'll need to use a brush like the Vikan brushes to agitate the dirt before hosing.
