Cleaning build up grime on polished lip wheels.

    Hey all

Cleaned the car for the first time in a while today and the wheel centers came up fine - they're a brushed aluminum centre. However the polished lip has a lot of build up which wouldn't come off. I've not tried anything but soapy water so far as I was not sure what would be best. I need to know what to use but also need to be sure that it won't be too harsh or affect the brushed (and gloss coated) centers of the wheels.

    Thanks guys.

I use to always use autosol metal polish on any chrome car parts like bumpers or window trims. I always right out was a great product. I use to get it from kmart, but I think all auto shops sell it. It works best on really smooth surfaces rather than brushed finishes.

    Autosol is quite abrasive!

I would personally suggest Purple Polish for Metals as its non abrasive. One of the most favoured by truckies, hotrodders and bikers as well.

If you find its quite badly marked etc, i would start with simichrome or autosol. Use a glove, smear it over the section where your working and give it a good rub. End with Purple Polish and another mf cloth and you'll get a great finish.

Autosol do offer allu polish specifically, as well as anodised as well

I would agree it has a slight abrasive feel when you apply it, but it certainly does not scratch chrome.
