First things first, need to clean the car to change it from United Grey to Candy White.
I'll put some metal polish on my wish list. Thanks for your help and I like the United Grey to Candy White, very funny!

I bought the Purple Metal Polish from Car Care Products, haven't seen it for sale anywhere else. Good stuff in that it isn't as abrasive as other metal polishes but gives a nice shine.

I could post a photo of my United Grey Candy White Golf but is way too embarrassing, and people who frequent this section of the forum will be horrified.

I think it would be a great thread to get people to show their detailing skills of their Unit Grey Candy White. I'm sure there are plenty of detail freaks here that would enjoy it, problem is many of them won't have dirty enough cars to participate.

What would a good quality wash be, please recommend? I've used both cheapo brands from Supercheap and Permanon car shampoo (and paint protection) yet those black dots still stick like rust. I've had to scrape them off with my finger nails!

I'll take photo's before I wash it on the weekend. Annoyingly I am halfway through polishing it but that little thing called life keeps getting in the way.

The best way to get rid of contaminants stuck to the paint is with a clay bar, bit like an eraser for your car. Follow up with a polish because claying usually leaves light scratches, then follow with a sealant or wax.

As for a wash shampoo, I use Duragloss 901 myself, great stuff and smells like cherries. You could also try any of the Dodo Juice range.

I haven't used the Permanon wash. But I have been using the Permanon "quick detailer" after drying on both the paint and the rims and neither exhaust contaminents or brake dust/road grime have been sticking. But Permanon isn't a sealant. I've got G|Techniq C1 for my sealant. Permanon is more something which makes the G|Techniq last longer...

For the car wash I've been switching between Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild & Supernatural, as well as the Duragloss 901 wash.
